Phillip Alexander reports “interference” to the EBC

Phillip Edward Alexander, the Progressive Empowerment Party’s (PEP) candidate for the electoral district of Diego Martin North/East has reported to the EBC that he has become aware of persons from a political party attempting to influence electors to not vote for him.

A false document issued on social media last evening bearing the logo of the EBC reportedly stated that Phillip Edward Alexander is not a candidate in the 2020 Parliamentary Elections. This document, which went viral on social media is false, as Alexander’s candidacy is valid as the representative for the PEP for the Diego Martin North/East constituency.

The public is reminded that in accordance with Section 64 (3)(a) of the Representation of the People Act, Chap. 2:01, that no person shall interfere with or attempt to interfere with an elector when he is voting.

The EBC reminds the electorate to observe and comply with the rules on Poll Day.

Phillip Alexander is on the Ballot

The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) is advising the electorate that Phillip Edward Alexander is a candidate for the electoral district of Diego Martin North/East.

The EBC was made aware of a publication bearing the EBC’s logo which went viral on social media last evening stating that Alexander, the Progressive Empowerment Party’s candidate for the electoral district of Diego Martin North/East was no longer a candidate. Mr. Alexander is on the ballot.

The EBC wishes to assure the public that it has complied with all the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 guidelines and that it is safe to go out an exercise your franchise.

The EBC extends well wishes all candidates and political parties and reminds all stakeholders in the electoral process to abide by the election rules today.

The Electorate can wear any Colour on Poll Day

The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) has been made aware of another post, circulating on social media bearing its logo purporting that you cannot wear certain colours to go to polling stations.

This document is false and was not issued by the EBC. The electorate can wear any colour on poll day but persons will not be permitted into a polling station wearing the emblems or logos of political parties or with the words “VOTE FOR” on their articles of clothing.

Employees’ Time-off for voting for the 2020 Parliamentary Elections

Employers and employees are reminded of the provisions in law relating to time-off to vote on Poll Day.

In accordance with Election Rule 28  every employer shall permit each elector in his employment to be absent from his work on polling day during the hours of the poll for two hours in addition to the normal midday meal hour.
