The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) for Trinidad and Tobago is collaborating with the Commonwealth Secretariat, which is based in the United Kingdom, to host the Commonwealth Election Professionals (CEP) Caribbean and Americas Regional Training Programme from April 20–24, 2026, in Port of Spain.
This five-day training initiative provides election professionals and electoral administrators from across the Caribbean and the Americas a platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and the strengthening of electoral systems throughout the region.
The CEP Initiative is an Australian-funded, multi-year programme, designed to support Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) across Commonwealth member countries.
The 2026 regional training will focus on the theme: “Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities & Risks for Electoral Integrity in the Commonwealth Caribbean & Americas.”
Participants will engage in a comprehensive programme covering key areas, including:
– Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence;
– Safeguarding information integrity in the digital age;
– Ethical considerations and risks associated with AI in elections;
– Legal and regulatory frameworks; and
– Strategic planning and evaluation for Electoral Management Bodies.
The EBC’s partnership in hosting this significant regional engagement coincides with the Commission’s milestone of 50 years of administering elections in Trinidad and Tobago, underscoring its longstanding commitment to democratic governance and electoral integrity.
By facilitating this regional training, the Commission continues to play a pivotal role in advancing electoral professionalism, fostering collaboration among Commonwealth partners, and strengthening public confidence in democratic processes.
