EBC stages “Mock” Polling Station

Chief Election Officer, Fern Narcis-Scope and staff of the Elections and Boundaries Commission staged a “mock polling station” simulation exercise to assess its level of preparedness for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections, which will be conducted under Covid-19 guidelines. The simulation was an interactive exercise with the forty-one Returning Officers and included a team of officials from the Ministry of Health, led by the Principal Medical Officer Epidemiology (PMOE).

These are the preliminary results for the 2019 Local Government Elections.

With an electorate of 1,079,976 in 139 electoral districts in Trinidad, there was a voter turn-out of 34.49%.

What’s the law with respect to employees’ time-off for voting?

The Elections and Boundaries Commission wishes to bring to the attention of ALL employers and employees, the provisions relating to time-off for voting as stipulated in the Representation of the People Act, Chapter 2:01.

According to Election Rule 28, every employer shall permit each elector in his employment, to be absent from his work on polling day, during the hours of the poll for TWO HOURS in addition to the normal mid-day meal hour.
