Employees’ Time-off for voting for the 2020 Parliamentary Elections
Employers and employees are reminded of the provisions in law relating to time-off to vote on Poll Day.
In accordance with Election Rule 28 every employer shall permit each elector in his employment to be absent from his work on polling day during the hours of the poll for two hours in addition to the normal midday meal hour.

Temporary Closure of the EBC’s Siparia Registration Area Office
The public is advised that the EBC’s Siparia Registration Area Office will be temporarily closed on Tuesday 4th August, 2020.
All persons who applied to be so treated as Special Electors for the upcoming polls and identified the Siparia Registration Area Office to collect their special envelopes can collect at the San Fernando & Penal/Debe Registration Area Sub-Office on Tuesday 4th August, 2020 ONLY.

Collection of Special Envelopes by Special Electors
All persons who applied to be treated as Special Electors for this upcoming Parliamentary Elections can collect their Special Envelopes at the Registration Area Office specified on their application forms. These offices will be open for collection from Friday, July 31st, 2020 to Saturday, August 8th, 2020.

Pre-examination of Nomination Papers for the 2020 Parliamentary Elections
All prospective candidates for the 2020 Parliamentary Elections are given an opportunity before Nomination Day to ensure they have all the requisite documents.
In accordance with Election Rule 6 (1) of the Representation of the People Act, Chapter 2:01
On the seventh day preceeding nomination day, the Returning Officer shall attend, at a place fixed for the nomination of candidates, between the hours of nine o’clock in the morning and twelve noon for the purpose of receiving for scrutiny from any candidate or his agent the documents which are required by these Rules to be tendered or delivered on nomination day to the Returning Officer by or on behalf of a candidate for the purpose of his nomination.
The requirements for the procedure for filing nomination papers are outlined in the Representation of the People Act, Chapter 2:01, Election Rules 6-13.

EBC stages “Mock” Polling Station
Chief Election Officer, Fern Narcis-Scope and staff of the Elections and Boundaries Commission staged a “mock polling station” simulation exercise to assess its level of preparedness for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections, which will be conducted under Covid-19 guidelines. The simulation was an interactive exercise with the forty-one Returning Officers and included a team of officials from the Ministry of Health, led by the Principal Medical Officer Epidemiology (PMOE).

Extension of validity of national identification cards
The Elections and Boundaries Commission wishes to advise that ALL identification cards issued by the Commission that have ALREADY EXPIRED as well as those due to expire in 2020, shall be valid until December 31, 2020.
