EBC conducts ID card exercise with Prison Service

The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) recently conducted an identification card outreach exercise, at three (3) of the country’s prison facilities in Arouca – the Women’s Prison, Golden Grove Prison/Remand Prison and the Maximum Security Prison.

On Friday 11th November, 2022, a team from the EBC conducted approximately ninety transactions inclusive of renewal of expired identification cards, replacement of lost identification cards and first time registrations. Inmates were also allowed to “collect” their identification cards. Under the law, prisoners are only disqualified as an elector where there is a sentence of death imposed or a sentence of imprisonment exceeding 12 months.
