Reminder – July 17, 2020 is Nomination Day
Nomination Day is July 17th 2020. Nomination Day is a very important day in any given election because after prospective candidates file their nomiation papers and these papers have been validated by the respective Returning Officer, their candidacy is confirmed.
The Elections and Boundaries Commission wishes to remind all political parties, individuals who propose to contest the 2020 Parliamentary Elections and the public that on Nomination Day, the offices of the Returning Officers will be open for receiving the nomination of duly qualified candidates from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Pre-examination of Nomination Papers for the 2020 Parliamentary Elections
All prospective candidates for the 2020 Parliamentary Elections are given an opportunity before Nomination Day to ensure they have all the requisite documents.
In accordance with Election Rule 6 (1) of the Representation of the People Act, Chapter 2:01
On the seventh day preceeding nomination day, the Returning Officer shall attend, at a place fixed for the nomination of candidates, between the hours of nine o’clock in the morning and twelve noon for the purpose of receiving for scrutiny from any candidate or his agent the documents which are required by these Rules to be tendered or delivered on nomination day to the Returning Officer by or on behalf of a candidate for the purpose of his nomination.
The requirements for the procedure for filing nomination papers are outlined in the Representation of the People Act, Chapter 2:01, Election Rules 6-13.

The forty-one Returning Officers for the August 10, 2020 Parliamentary Election were presented with their respective writs of election on Saturday, July 4th 2020.

EBC stages “Mock” Polling Station
Chief Election Officer, Fern Narcis-Scope and staff of the Elections and Boundaries Commission staged a “mock polling station” simulation exercise to assess its level of preparedness for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections, which will be conducted under Covid-19 guidelines. The simulation was an interactive exercise with the forty-one Returning Officers and included a team of officials from the Ministry of Health, led by the Principal Medical Officer Epidemiology (PMOE).

Posting of the Preliminary List of Electors for the 2020 Parliamentary Elections
The Elections and Boundaries Commission has posted its Preliminary List of Electors for the 2020 Parliamentary Elections.
Any registered person, whose name does not appear on the Preliminary List or whose name appears incorrectly, or with an incorrect address is required to complete Form No. 28 and submit this form to the Registration Officer in order to have the changes made on the Revised List of Electors.
The comprehensive listing of places where the Preliminary List of Electors is posted is attached for your persual in addition to Form No. 28.
Application to vote as a Special Elector for the 2020 Parliamentary Elections (Form A-23)
The Elections and Boundaries Commission wishes to advise that it has started processing applications from persons eligible to be treated as Special Electors for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections.

Notices of Election for the 2020 Parliamentary Elections
The Elections and Boundaries Commission is required by law, to publish in the Gazette and at least one newpaper, election notices in the form set out as Form No. 35 in the Prescribed Forms Rules.
These election notices provide a host of information, for example, the names and addresses of the Returning Officers for the forty-one (41) Parliamentary Electoral Districts.
