Commencement of Electoral Registration for the Local Government Bye-Election in the electoral District of Debe South

Members of the public, including persons already registered to vote, are hereby notified that under Section 30 of the Representation of the People Act, Chap. 2:01, Her Excellency, the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago has issued a Proclamation, which fixed January 7th 2022 as the date for the commencement of an Electoral Registration in the Electoral District of Debe South.

In accordance with said Section 30 and Registration Rules 52 and 53, the Electoral Registration will be conducted at the Registration Area Office for San Fernando and Penal/Debe and the Registration Area Sub-Office for Penal/Debe during the period January 7th to 15th, 2022.

The purpose of the exercise is to facilitate those persons who:

  • Have attained the age of 18 years and over, but who have not been registered as electors;
  • Have been registered as electors, but changed address and have not yet advised of this change (of address);
  • Have been registered as electors and have changed their name because of marriage, or otherwise, but their previous name appears on the Preliminary List of Electors;
  • Have been registered as electors but their names do not appear on the Preliminary List of Electors

You can apply to be treated as a Special Elector for the February 7, 2022 Local Government Bye-Election in the Electoral District of Debe South.

To be treated as a Special Elector or Special Voter, you must fall into at least one (1) of the categories as specified in Election Rule 59 of the Representation of the People Act, Chap 2:01.

For a full listing of the categories of persons eligible to be treated as a Special Elector and the period for applying to be so treated, please see the advertisement in the Press and found in the link posted below. We have also included for you ease of access, the application form, Form A-23.

To be considered, your completed application form must be delivered by the DEADLINE DATE to:

  • The Returning Officer’s Office*
  • The Office of the Chief Election Officer*
  • The Registration Office for San Fernando and Penal/Debe OR the Registration Sub-offie for Penal/Debe*

Notice of Election for the Local Government Bye-Election for Debe South

In accordance with Election Rule 4 (1) (a) notice is hereby given of the posting of the election notice for the Local Government Bye-Election in the electoral district of Debe South.

The Returning Offier is Mrs. Ramawatee Rampersad Ganga Persad and the Office for the Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Debe South is located at 172 S.S. Erin Road, Debe.

EBC ready for Bye-Election in Debe South

The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) has started its preparations for the upcoming Bye-Election in the electoral district of Debe South.

On Tuesday 4th January, 2022 Returning Officer, Ramawatee Rampersad Ganga Persad was presented with the Writ of Election by Chairman of the EBC, Mark Ramkerrysingh. The Writ of Election, which was issued by Her Excellency, Paula- Mae Weekes, O.R.T.T. gives Mrs. Rampersad Ganga Persad the authority to conduct the election for the EBC in the electoral district of Debe South.

On Monday 3rd January, 2022 Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Keith Rowley announced that there will be a Bye-election in the Electoral District of Debe South on February 7th, 2022.

EBC temporarily discontinues Pilot Project for THA Elections

The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) met with representatives of the media and political parties contesting the upcoming Tobago House Assembly Elections on Saturday December 4th 2021 and subsequently agreed that it will not move forward with its pilot project for parallel data collection at polling stations in the specified electoral districts of Scarborough/Mt. Grace and Mt. St. George/Goodwood on Election Day, Monday 6th December, 2021. The Commission listened to all relevant parties and decided to defer for future elections after there is an opportunity for further consultation.
